Plans for a new National Speedway Stadium, a National Speedway Academy at Belle Vue in Manchester are progressing. Belle Vue is the home of Manchester’s Belle Vue Aces team. Manchester City Council – in partnership with Belle Vue Aces and England Basketball – are preparing a planning application. AFL Architects are working with construction company ISG.
Also planned are a synthetic turf pitch, a National Basketball Centre and a rugby pitch. The city council is paying the £4.5m building costs as a loan which will be repaid by Belle Vue Aces though an annual rent as part of the club’s lease agreement. The development is part of the Eastlands Community Plan which includes new sports facilities designed to generate additional community and economic benefits for the city and East Manchester.
