The tourist town of Torbay, Devon, England, is planning to build a velodrome and a 1.5km closed road cycling circuit at Clennon Valley. A full council meeting held at the Riviera International Conference Centre recently gave its support.
Councillor Jeanette Richards, executive lead for tourism, said:
This will be the only sports facility of its type in the south west. Only London and Manchester have both.
It is expected tourists will make informal use of the circuit. It is an opportunity to host regional, national and international events and the increased media coverage will boost the profile of Torbay.
The council opted to look for funding proposals from outside investors, reported This Is Devon.
