Bordeaux Arena looks set for 2017 opening

The Bordeaux arena project is going ahead through negotiations between M. Vincent Feltesse, MP for the Gironde, and president of the Communauté urbaine de Bordeaux (CUB), and a development group consisting of Group Lagardère Unlimited, DV Construction, Rudy Ricciotti architects and Bouygues energy.

The city of Bordeaux is set to pay 49.2 million Euros for construction and subsequent exploitation, with a contract fixed at 20 years. For comparison, recent comparable projects (Dunkerque, Orléans) both cost around 100 million Euros.

Feltesse and an advisory committee chose the project on the grounds of its strong architectural vision, technical excellence, including acoustic, and urban integration The quality and diversity of the proposed uses particularly weighed in favour of the winning project. A phase of development of the contract is under way with the objective of getting a signed contract from the CUB in the first half of 2014. The 10,000 capacity arena is set to open in 2017.
