Brentford’s 20,000 stadium at next stage of approval

Brentford Football Club’s Lionel Road Stadium Project Team is calling on Brentford fans to write in as Mayor of London Boris Johnson prepares to make a decision about whether to ‘call in’ the project, which could add delay or threaten viability of the project.

Hounslow Council in December passed a resolution to grant Brentford Football Club planning permission for a new stadium and residential development subject to referral to the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.

Brentford Football Club selected Willmott Dixon as preferred bidder for role of development partner for the new stadium at Lionel Road South. The planning application includes a 20,000 capacity stadium together with other community facilities, 910 new homes, and a hotel and supporting retail uses. Chris Gammon, Co-director of Lionel Road Developments, said:

Soon after submitting our Planning Application in May 2013 we began the process of identifying a partner to work on this exciting and challenging scheme. Hounslow Council officers have been focused on the deliverability of our scheme and we believe that the Club and Willmott Dixon have in place a sound commercial model and sensitive design approach which will do a great deal to meet the concerns of local residents.

We recognise we have to await the views of London and Central Governments before progressing to the next stage.
