Cape Verde intends to run new national stadium as a business

Cape Verde’s new National Stadium, on the outskirts of the capital city Praia, is gearing up for its official inauguration on 5 July 2014, on the 39th anniversary of the archipelago’s independence. The Chinese construction company that built the stadium handed over the keys at the end of November.

The stadium covers an area of 11,530 square metres and has capacity for 15,000 seated spectators, of which 5,000 are in covered areas. It supports a variety of sports, including athletics, and has a FIFA-approved synthetic turf pitch. Construction cost US$50 million.

Officials have stated that they intend to turn the stadium into a public business so that it can be managed in a professional way and to ensure its sustainability.
