Diary: Sports turf conference 21 January in San Antonio

The Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas, 21-24 January 2014.

Since 1989, STMA – the professional organization for 2,600 men and women who manage sports fields worldwide – has hosted its annual convention at major cities across the US. The 2013 event in Daytona Beach, Fla. was one of the best attended in association history with a record 168 exhibitors and 1,600 attendees.
Kim Heck, CEO of STMA said:

STMA has experienced exceptional growth since the 1980s and the Conference & Exhibition serves as the pinnacle event of our year. Sports turf managers from across the US will descend upon San Antonio for four days to further their knowledge and share best practices while enjoying all the city has to offer.

For the 2014 event, STMA will recognise four members with Founders Awards who have made significant contributions to the profession. New this year, horticultural tours will be available for attendees along the city’s famed River Walk.
SAFE, the association’s charitable foundation, will host its annual golf tournament, ‘Casino Night’ and auctions to fund educational programmes, scholarships and grants. The philanthropic arm enriches communities through championing safe, sustainable sports and recreation fields for all athletes.

STMA’s Field of the Year awards will also be presented to members who manage baseball, football, softball, soccer and other sporting grounds at the professional, collegiate or schools (K-12) and parks level.
