Over the past decade, The International Rugby Board (IRB) has tightened their regulations on rugby pitch quality, producing the ‘Performance Specification for Artificial Grass Pitches for Rugby’.
With one of the leading UK Premiership sides, Saracens, leading the way to synthetic turf acceptance with their full size 3G stadium pitch, the need for training areas at rugby clubs will increase. Already several Premiership clubs have installed synthetic turf training areas.
The IRB Performance Specification for Rugby clarifies the use of artificial pitches for competitive use and has led to the development of a new generation of artificial grass carpets developed specifically for the Sport. Alongside the new playing surfaces it has been necessary to introduce special high strength reinforced seam jointing tapes and strong polyurethane adhesives to ensure that the installation system for the rugby pitch will consistently meet the required test specifications.
The requirement for trusted adhesives and installation performance has never been greater. That’s why Envirostik, leaders in adhesives for synthetic grass sports installations, led the way with the introduction of a new generation high performance adhesive and tape system specially designed for rugby and high contact sports pitches.
Ultra-Fix, a special two-part polyurethane, is designed for use alongside the new high performance seaming tape, RTX Tape, and these developments are amongst Envirostik’s latest adhesive innovations.
Selecting the correct tape and adhesive solution is critical to ensuring a seamless and long lasting, strong join where the artificial grass edges meet. The join is the most critical area of the sports pitch installation and incorrectly applied or wrongly selected adhesives can lead to seam failures and subsequent expensive repairs.
Envirostik always recommend Ultra-fix adhesive and RTX tape for IRB specification pitches. The combined system has been tried, tested and proven to perform to FIFA, GAA and IRB standards; meeting the most rigorous tensile strength parameters.
Envirostik Ultra-Fix has been developed to retain its structure during application, within wide temperature fluctuations and can be trusted to perform even when conditions of cold and wet are encountered. The high performance bond ensures a reliable option for pitches in the harshest of climates.
Ultra-Fix adds to Envirostik’s tried and tested range of performance PU adhesives and seaming tapes for sports pitches. More details can be found at www.envirostik.com
