The European Stadium & Safety Managers Association (ESSMA) began 2014 with their Kick-Off Meeting this January, which was supported by ESSMA’s Security Expert Group partners, Dallmeier and SKIDATA, along with Hospitality partner, Arena One.
Hosted in the Allianz Arena and focused on ‘Safety & Security Issues’, presentations outlined the latest in best-practice and solutions. Proceedings kicked off with a welcome speech by Allianz Arena GmbH’s CEO, Jürgen Muth, followed by ESSMA President, John Beattie, who welcomed everyone and advised on the schedule of events.
Dimitri Huygen, ESSMA Managing Director, brought everyone up-to-speed on the latest developments, including the fact the Association now has 163 stadium members, nine league/federation members, 10 stadium partners, and 29 corporate members, with the Russian Premier League having joined as of this month. Huygen also outlined the Association’s future plans, before opening up the floor to the industry professional speakers.
Cenk Cem, Facilities Manager at the Turkish Football Federation, advised on the security projects underway in the country and detailed the latest solutions being utilised.
Hendrik GroBe Lefert, Chief Security Officer at the DFB, outlined their security initiatives and how they dealt with breeches, including pyrotechnics and problematic fans. The DFL’s Stadium Infrastructure and Security expert, Birger Naß, went on to discuss licensing, infrastructure, and the training programmes in place for their security personnel.
Lokomotiv Moscow’s Stadium Director, Konstantin Chamilovich, then explained the benefits of the SKIDATA solutions employed at their venue, before delegates headed off on the technical tour of Allianz Arena, which included presentations by SKIDATA, Dallmeier and Arena One.
The day finished in style, with a sensory-extravaganza for the taste-buds thanks to the wide array of tasting dishes provided by Arena One at the event’s evening reception.
