Fort Worth to vote on enabling taxes for downtown arena

Fort Worth, Texas, voters will decide on 4 November on financing measures which may begin a process towards building a new multipurpose arena adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center.

The result may be a $450 million, 14,000 arena. Target opening date is currently 2019. Private donors led by businessman Ed Bass have pledged to pay half the million cost, plus any overruns.

The new arena would host the annual Stock Show Rodeo, equestrian and livestock events, concerts, sporting events and family shows.

Event Facilities Fort Worth proposes to manage the arena on a not-for-profit basis. Bass told the Star-Telegram that the group’s studies have shown that 14 to 16 concerts a year would pay all the operating costs of such an arena.
