HATKO Hybridgrass for UEFA Champions League Final

The 2020 UEFA Champions League final at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium will be played on a HATKO Hybridgrass playing surface.

The match will be played on May 30 and will mark the second time that the Atatürk Olympic Stadium will host the final of UEFA’s showpiece club competition, after it staged Liverpool’s famous comeback win against AC Milan in 2005.

With over 400 FIFA certified pitches in 100 countries, HATKO is one of the top 10 artificial turf specialists in the world, offering a one stop solution from concept to installation for sport and landscape.

HATKO’s Hybridgrass surface has been the choice of premiere football clubs such as FC Zenit St Petersburg, FC Copenhagen and GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

HATKO Hybridgrass merges natural grass and synthetic turf where the surface combines all the benefits of the former with the strength and durability of the latter.

The surface is installed on a carefully-selected root zone layer and filled with a specifically-defined root zone mixture before high quality sports field grass is seeded into the surface. The natural grass then grows between the synthetic grass fibres to create a strong and vigorous playing surface.

Through a specially patented system, following the seeding, the field is ready for matches in only eight weeks. The artificial turf carpet with more than 66,000 filaments per square meter provides an always green field. The ‘open’ texture of the backing ensures that the grass roots are not obstructed in their vertical movement downwards, which in turn creates a rigorous playing field that is playable 24/7.

A more detailed analysis of this project will be available in our “Project in Focus” section in our spring issue of Panstadia & Arena Management magazine.
