Huawei, Amsterdam ArenA and City of Amsterdam develop smart city concept

The City of Amsterdam, Amsterdam ArenA and Huawei have reached an agreement to jointly cooperate on the smart city and smart stadium concept. The agreement was signed at the Huawei Innovation Summit during the Amsterdam delegation visit to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen by Ms. Kajsa Ollongren, Amsterdam Deputy Mayor, Mr. Henk Markerink, CEO of Amsterdam ArenA, Mr. Wonder Wang, CEO of Huawei Technologies Netherlands. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. William Xu, Executive Director of the Board and Marketing Officer of Huawei, Mr. Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam, Ms. Anne Luwema, Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou and Leon He, President of Huawei Western Europe Enterprise Business Group. The agreement has a duration time of 5 years.

During the Innovation Summit, which was organized by Huawei for the Mayor of Amsterdam and his delegation, the three parties agreed to further develop the connectivity within the Amsterdam ArenA and the city of Amsterdam by using state-of-the-art Huawei LTE and Wi-Fi technology.

Sustainable energy plays an important role in the agreement: with the parties to reduce the use of non-renewable energy with innovative technology. For example, by using Power over Ethernet (PoE) in which only one cable is needed for both data and power connections, instead of requiring a separate cable for each need.

Huawei and the Amsterdam ArenA also signed another five-year agreement, which will see Huawei become the ICT innovation partner in Amsterdam ArenA’s Innovation Centre.

The Innovation Centre will be built with Huawei’s Open Cloud Platform and forms a platform for Huawei and other companies to develop and pilot new solutions for the Amsterdam ArenA and City of Amsterdam, in close cooperation with Amsterdam Smart City.

Huawei is a worldwide leading player in mobile infrastructure and has the ambition to further digitalize the Netherlands by using innovative communications solutions. With increasing connectivity for cities, Huawei developed multiple technologies for the Smart City concept, such as Safe City, Smart Health, Smart Education, Smart Energy Grid, Smart Transportation and Smart Business.

Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam, said:

I believe Amsterdam is a good partner for the technology solutions of Huawei. This agreement is an important step to make the city safer, more energy efficient and more accessible.

Wonder Wang, CEO of Huawei Technologies Netherlands, commented:

Huawei is very honoured to collaborate with the capital city of the Netherlands and the number one stadium of the Netherlands. With both organizations, Huawei has big ambitions and we believe that together we could achieve many benefits to the visitors of the Amsterdam ArenA, the citizens of Amsterdam and many more. To Huawei, collaborating with the Amsterdam ArenA and the city of Amsterdam is a logical and strategic step.

Henk Markerink, CEO of Amsterdam ArenA added:

Amsterdam ArenA is always looking for state-of-the-art technology which benefits our visitors and can also be applied worldwide in our international projects. This agreement makes it possible for us to develop multiple technologies in our Innovation Centre for creating a smart stadium. We are very happy to collaborate with such a big international company and the City of Amsterdam to further improve our service towards our customers.
