ICC Sydney on track for December 2016 opening

ICC Sydney remains on track for its December 2016 opening. A topping out ceremony, common in the construction industry, was celebrated upon the ICC Sydney Theatre this month when the building reached its topmost point.

Following an ancient Scandinavian tradition, an Oriental Pear Tree was lifted by crane to the top level of the building shortly after the last of the concrete was poured 40m above ground on the top of ICC Sydney Theatre.

Enhancing day and night activation throughout the ICC Sydney precinct, ICC Sydney Theatre presents a prestigious, ultramodern venue in the heart of the city’s revitalised Darling Harbour events precinct.

Set to host a calendar of world-class events, this striking new venue will have seating capacity of 8,000 guests, catering to large-scale conventions and a wide range of international and local artists.

Its fan-shaped layout will bring audiences closer to performers, providing an intimate experience and removing all site obstructions.

The theatre is connected by undercover access to the rest of the venue and has links to Tumbalong Park, car parking, public transport and the exhibition centre’s open air Event Deck and Bar & Lounge.

Key Features

  • 9,000-capacity, which can be scaled down to seat audience sizes of 8,000, 6,000, 5,000 and 3,500
  • Large VIP hospitality spaces for entertaining
  • Premium seating with excellent vantage points
  • Undercover connections to the convention and exhibition centres
  • Link through to Tumbalong Park, which can hold 27,000 people
  • Located in the heart of a vibrant entertainment and dining precinct

ICC Sydney has appointed Ivan Sanhueza as its Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). With a vision to deliver world-class, leading technology solutions and services throughout the venue, it is Ivan’s commitment and passion for innovation that will see him ensure this for ICC Sydney. Ivan brings 15-years of experience in the ICT space to his role at ICC Sydney and is proficient in developing strategy in both LAN and WAN environments, telecommunications and security systems as well as implementing new media platforms.

A career highlight for Ivan was in his most recent position as the ICT Manager for The Sydney Cricket & Sports Ground Trust (SCGT), which manages the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium, where he was responsible for implementing a multi-million dollar, world class Wi-Fi and IPTV technology network solution that was the first of its kind in an Australian stadium.

Ivan delivered a digital transformation strategy that changed the way fans digitally interacted with their passion for sport in a live environment, enabling social engagement, access to instant replays and the ability to order food and drinks. He commented:

It was a privilege to play a leadership role in delivering a more powerful and personalised experience for the tens of thousands of fans who visit those iconic Sydney stadiums.  I will be harnessing that experience to deliver innovative solutions to ICC Sydney’s clients and visitors and the team and I look forward to sharing the ultramodern venue’s technology features in the lead up to opening in December 2016.

ICC Sydney will feature world’s best-practice technology throughout to ensure that whatever the event requirements, its facilities and services can be tailored to suit. Key technology will include high bandwidth, venue-wide wireless connectivity, dynamic and interactive HD digital signage and elite conferencing facilities.
