International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) expands with launch of European head office

The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) has confirmed it is to expand its global strategy and operations with a European Head Office.

With its growing portfolio of European partners in the field of sport safety, security and integrity, including the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), Lega Pro, European Lotteries and the Olympic Committee of Portugal, the ICSS will strengthen its position and resources in Europe from June this year.

As part of the need to further enhance cooperation with the sporting community and build on closer partnerships with European-based political authorities, ICSS Europe will continue to enhance the organisation’s global reach and proactive stance in the fight against corruption and other detrimental practices in sport.

Under the leadership of CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, ICSS Europe will also be established as a focal point to address emerging trends which further threaten sport at global level, such as issues around third-party ownership, financial integrity, good governance in sport and protection of young athletes.

Mohammed Hanzab, ICSS President, said:

The ICSS is fast becoming a leading voice in the fight to protect and preserve the integrity and safety of sport. In order to continue to serve sport at a global level and to continue our work with Governments and International organisations, we need to ensure that we are well-positioned to maximise these partnerships and to have the resources and the added expertise to be at the forefront of issues affecting sport.

I am honoured and delighted that Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, a leader and pioneer from the world of football, will head up our European operation. With his experience, knowledge and professionalism and his shared belief in protecting the values and ethics of true sport; the ICSS will continue to go from strength to strength.

Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, who stepped down in March this year from his position as CEO of the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) after nine years, said he was inspired by Mohammed Hanzab’s personal vision and commitment to sport.

Medeiros said:

I am deeply honoured to join Mohammed Hanzab and his team of international experts at the ICSS, who are at the forefront of the international fight for safe, secure and fair Sport. At this moment, I cannot imagine a nobler cause and a more decisive and urgent challenge for Sport than to ensure the highest levels of safety, security and integrity.  I am ready to embrace these challenges, with full commitment and absolute confidence at a crucial time for the ICSS and for Sport alike.
