KPMG Australia appointed advisor to GC 2018 Commonwealth Games

One of the world’s largest business advisory firms, KPMG, has signed on as the Official Professional Services Advisor to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC).

Minister for the Commonwealth Games, Kate Jones, welcomed the partnership:

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be the biggest event in Australia this decade and KPMG will play a key behind-the-scenes role by providing financial planning, risk management, taxation and internal audit expertise to GOLDOC.

KPMG is the only ‘big four’ professional services firm with a dedicated office on the Gold Coast and will bring more local knowledge and expertise to the Games as the first Tier Two sponsor.

We are committed to ensuring Queensland benefits from the Games and local KPMG staff will now have the opportunity to gain career-defining experience in the delivery and business operations of a major international sporting event.

KPMG’s Queensland Chair, Rob Jones, who will lead the firm’s Games services team, believes the Games will define the Gold Coast.

Mr Jones said:

We are passionate about the potential for the Games to have a long lasting and positive impact on the future of the Gold Coast and Queensland.

It’s a real privilege to be so closely involved with the Games, ensuring that the business of the Games is as strong as the sporting performances.

This is a once-in-a-generation chance to be a part of something that promises a real impact for both the Gold Coast community and the State.

GOLDOC CEO, Mark Peters, said it is important that the event’s fiscal wellbeing is aligned with such a world-respected brand, as he advised:

We are very much looking forward to working with the team at KPMG. The alignment of GOLDOC to one of the ‘big four’ advisory firms ensures a strong professional integrity for our Corporation and provides a unique Games experience for their professional advisory staff.

This signing is very exciting and we are buoyed by the early commercial interest and confidence in GC2018.

In the past four months we have signed two Tier One sponsors, and KPMG’s signing today as our first Tier Two sponsor is another reason to feel very confident with the calibre of support we are receiving.

It reinforces that, with less than two and a half years until GC2018, planning for the Games is well and truly on track.
