The Rupp Arena re-design and renovation moved to its next stage this week as officials and architect NBBJ unveiled new designs.
The $310 million project in downtown Lexington is due to be completed by 2017. Improvements include:
- Chairback seats throughout the arena;
- Improved technology;
- A centre-hung scoreboard;
- Proposed catwalk system to connect the arena to UK’s campus
Gov. Steve Beshear said:
This is another step forward in a project that is critical to the future of this region and to the entire Commonwealth.
LCC Chairman Brent Rice said:
We’ve been working on a long-term lease with the University of Kentucky. That lease will define UK’s contribution to this project.
Additional revenue could come from naming rights, with Rupp as part of the name.
