Polish football club, Widzew Lodz, have confirmed its plans for a new €31m 31,000-seat stadium, in turn, the municipal authorities have launched a tender to build the new facility, which is designed to revamp the troubled club and boost matchday attendances.
The decision to build the €31m (PLN 130m) stadium was jointly announced by Mayor of Lodz, Hanna Zdanowska, and the Club’s Chief Executive, Pawel Mlynarczyk. The Mayor advised:
We will need 40 days to complete the tender and have earmarked PLN 170m in our budget for this, including PLN 130m for the stadium and PLN 40m for related road construction works.
Widzew’s current stadium has a seating capacity of 10,500, of which only 1,192 seats are covered.
