A new multipurpose Palau Blaugrana, usable for all kinds of activities, from basketball matches to concerts and other events, is part of the proposed upgrade to Barcelona’s club facilities. The proposal will go to a referendum of club members in April.
The arena will be built on the current site of the Miniestadi (which will now be in the Ciutat Esportiva) and will seat 10,000 people, although for certain events this will be extendible to 12,000. There are also plans for a smaller pavilion with 2,000 seats next to the Palau. This space has been designed for training matches and games played by teams that attract smaller crowds, including the option of an ice rink.
The construction will take about two years, starting in the summer of 2017 and ending in the first quarter of 2019.
