Lendlease has been named as preferred design and construct contractor to deliver the new Western Sydney Stadium in Parramatta, on behalf of Infrastructure NSW.
The A$300 million stadium redevelopment project, designed by Populous, will bring Western Sydney a brand new rectangular stadium with all 30,000 seats under roof cover, plus an additional 1,000 person standing area.
The new stadium will be able to support a number of different sports. Work to demolish the existing stadium will begin early next year and it is expected to be open to fans in 2019.
NSW Premier Mike Baird said:
In simple terms, you’re going to have 10,000 more fans here and you’re going to have them closer to the action than ever before. This will be a stadium … known as the best rectangular stadium in the country.
The new stadium will play home to the NRL’s Parramatta Eels and A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers.
Lendlease’s Managing Director of Building, Dale Connor, said:
This project is an opportunity for us to continue our legacy in the delivery of important public and sporting infrastructure, including the original Parramatta Stadium in 1986, but also to continue our commitment to enhancing Greater Western Sydney’s prosperity.
Lendlease’s experienced design and construction team has a strong history managing complex sports and entertainment stadium construction programs across Australia – from Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, to the Adelaide Oval redevelopment in South Australia, and the recently completed International Convention Centre in Sydney.
