New training complex for Fleetwood Town FC gets the green light

Newly promoted League One soccer side Fleetwood Town FC have received the go-ahead to start work on their new GB£6m sports complex.

The new facility, which will be used by Fleetwood Town’s first team, Thornton-Cleveleys FC and members of the local community, will feature a state-of-the-art full-size 3G pitch, as well as a number of grass pitches, along with the associated changing rooms, classroom facilities, and other community facilities.

Steve Curwood, Chief Executive of the League One side said of the work on Poolfoot Farm in Thornton:

We are delighted planning permission has been granted. We hope the project will start within a matter of weeks. Once started, I anticipate the project will take up to one year to fully complete.

I would like to thank NPL Estates and, in particular, Chairman Robert McFarlane, who have been extremely generous in gifting the land to Fleetwood Town FC. Finally, I must recognise the team at architects Croft Goode who have been a key partner in our preparations.

The bulk of the £6m outlay will be privately financed, with some grant funding.
