Oak View Group (OVG) and City Football Group are examining the results of a consultation on proposals for a potential new arena at the Etihad Campus in East Manchester.
The consortium has just completed a series of conversations with local communities and stakeholders as they look to shape their plans for the arena next to Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium.
A consultation on more detailed plans will take place towards the end of 2019, with an initial application for planning permission set to be submitted in early 2020.
OVG said the main focus for this first stage of consultation is on creating jobs for people in East Manchester and making sure a new arena works for the community.
OVG said that they were keen to seek views on traffic, parking, capacity on public transport, and sustainability and that a new, state-of-the-art arena is consistent with the wider commitment to continue the growth of Eastlands and the Etihad Campus.
The group said the addition of a major entertainment visitor attraction on land adjacent to the Etihad Stadium has been an aspiration for many years and is identified within Manchester’s Development Plan.
In addition, the opportunity for a new large indoor arena at the Etihad Campus was identified in the 2019 update to the Eastlands Regeneration Framework which was consulted on earlier this year.
OVG is currently leading arena development projects in New York; Milan; Seattle; Austin, Texas; and Palm Springs, California.
