Polo club to host event at KC stadium

Rowley Park Polo Club, based in Little Weighton, East Yorkshire, is set to host a prestigious polo event at the KC stadium, in order to bring the sport to a wider audience.

Set to take place on Monday 12th May, the event will see eight teams battle it out on the playing field for four coveted trophies. There will be four matches throughout the day, with play commencing at 2.30pm and the last game getting under way at 7pm on a floodlit pitch.

A venue more accustomed to hosting premier league football and rugby fixtures, this will be the first time any UK football stadium has seen the sport of polo grace its pitch.

Entry to the ground is free for the public and expert commentary will be provided to help spectators get to grips with the rules of play.

George Carter, polo manager of Rowley Park Polo Club, said:

We’re extremely proud to be able to introduce a new sport to the KC stadium, and, with Hull having recently been awarded the title of City of Culture for 2017, events like this help to demonstrate how diverse and exciting our sporting community is.

We want to encourage as many people as possible to come down and have some fun – even if they haven’t ever watched or played polo before – as it’s a great sport that the whole family can enjoy. It might even inspire people to give it a go for themselves!

Rowley Park is open to players of all ages and abilities and the club is particularly keen to promote polo amongst the younger generation. Fifteen-year-old Phoebe Watson, from Driffield School, and 17-year-old Alex Stimpson, from Longcroft School, Beverley, are amongst the club’s youngest players and will be participating in the event at KC.

In addition, national players will be making guest appearances, helping to captain some of the competing teams.

Corporate hospitality will be available on the day and the club will also be holding an after-event meal and party in the stadium’s restaurant.

The event has already garnered significant local interest, with some of the area’s most prominent companies signing up for sponsorship, including Polypipe, Marshall Honda, Rollits, Bluestorm Design and Marketing, Ian Blowers Jewellers, The Laughing Horse and Edwards and Pearce.

Rowley Park Polo Club is a purpose-built facility set in extensive grounds close to Cowlam Farm in Little Weighton, East Yorkshire. Formed in 2013 by an enthusiastic group of people who wanted to expand polo into the north of England, the club now has over 30 members and is committed to bringing new and existing players together in an inviting and friendly atmosphere.
