Keith Prowse marked the start of the 2015 ‘Season’ with the launch of its new hospitality offerings for The Investec Derby Festival at Epsom Downs Racecourse.

In partnership with Epsom Downs Racecourse, Keith Prowse – one of the UK’s leading hospitality supplier – has redesigned the hospitality offering at ‘The Greatest Flat Race in the World’ culminating in a modern take on entertaining for what is a pinnacle social event of the year.

The racecourse drew on more than 230 years of entertaining experience at this popular Festival and worked with Keith Prowse to create a new design led space for private and business entertaining; The Winning Post.

A new concept for 2015, The Winning Post marries traditions of The Investec Derby Festival with on trend interior design and menus that reflect today’s less formal dining habits. In addition to the draw of the races on The Investec Ladies’ Day and Derby Day, The Winning Post brings mixologists and informal seating areas to create the ambience of an upscale private members club. As the pace of the world-class horse racing draws to a close, the tempo of the music provided by London’s top DJ’s increases as The Winning Post takes centre stage for the official hospitality after party.

Innovative cuisine is order of the day with highlights including ‘Caledonian Bleu Prawn, Sea Bream Tartare, Herring Caviar, Avocado Purée’ and ‘Salt Plate Beef Satay’. The afternoon tea has also been re-designed and is served in individual hampers.

In addition to Keith Prowse’s modern take on hospitality in The Winning Post, the renowned Tattenham Straight Marquee offers a unique position adjacent to the main grandstand, on a pivotal point as the runners approach the final furlong of the race.

The hospitality areas at the Etihad Stadium (home of Manchester City FC) are looking to reap the benefits of a smart kitchen automation solution this season, with dramatic improvement in service delivery times.

The expected improvements will be made possible by the installation of Call Systems Technology (CST) ConnectSmart Kitchen (CSK) system across the six hospitality areas to ensure quick and efficient service levels for all visitors to the club.

Neil Worcester, Venue Director at Fabulous FanFayre, contract caterers at the Etihad Stadium, commented:

The catering facilities at the stadium were in real need of modernisation and to be operational efficient. Now, with the help of CST and Verteda, we offer a superior quality service, that ensures quick and efficient service levels and in turn, customer satisfaction. The kitchen automation system is ideal for when the team are juggling lots of orders, something which is sure to increase with the recent approval for an extra 14,000 seats at the stadium.

CST worked alongside hospitality technology solutions provider Verteda to provide a flexible kitchen automation solution, replacing the stadium’s existing manual and printer paper operation. The overall project included the installation of the InfoGenesis POS solution and mobile ordering devices, with the aim of incorporating technology to streamline back of house processes, such as supplier orders, inventory control, cash management and Business Intelligence reporting.

CST was tasked with improving service delivery times, communication between front and back of house and order delivery in the kitchen. The system also had to deal with reducing labour by eliminating the need for staff to go to the kitchen to request orders.

The ConnectSmart Kitchen (CSK) system also provides operational data to help the stadium’s business managers learn about the kitchen operation so that they can continue to improve service delivery for every fan visiting the stadium in the future.

CST installed a 16 screen CSK system across the six different hospitality areas at the stadium, allowing the separate kitchens to work seamlessly together without the need for manual communication – leaving staff able to focus on service.

The CSK system helps the stadium’s chefs to determine which food items to focus on, taking into consideration preparation times of each so all items for the order complete at the same time. Screens at each chef’s station present staff with all the information they need when and where they need it. This ensures that customers receive their meals together, freshly prepared, even when cooking times vary.

Horseracing is Britain’s best value day out for sports fans and business, according to a new report published this week by the Racecourse Association. The research, conducted by Deloitte, analysed the cost of a corporate hospitality box for ten at sporting venues, an increasingly popular way to do business.

The lowest priced packages, at under £1,000, are mid-week race meetings and Football League games. Also at the lower end of the price range are weekend racing fixtures and Twenty20 Cricket which are both achievable for under £1,500. Hospitality at a domestic rugby game will cost a business in excess of £2,100, with a Premier League game topping the chart at over £3,300.

Even racing’s premier events, including the Cheltenham Festival, Grand National meeting and The Derby, are less expensive to attend than Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix or an England Test Match. Per person, corporate hospitality is available at these events from £118 at the major jumps festivals and £181 on the flat. Equivalent costs at other premier international sporting events start at £191 for an England Test Match, £618 for Wimbledon and £1,074 at the British Grand Prix. RCA Chief Executive Stephen Atkin commented:

We’re delighted with these findings which confirm that corporate hospitality at racing provides great value for money as well as an excellent way to do business. British racecourses offer a fantastic range of options for businesses to take advantage of both at weekends and during the week. The nature of an afternoon’s racing allows plenty of time to invite clients and their guests with the full afternoon to engage with them and enjoy the fantastic sport on offer in a private facility.

Jockey Club Catering, a sister company of Levy Restaurants, has created the Equus restaurant in partnership with Sandown Park Racecourse. The 275-seat restaurant has been designed to evoke the exclusivity of a private members’ club and appeal to the younger racing demographic, which the racecourse is looking to attract.

Equus will be open on racedays for the spring season and plans are in place to open the restaurant for use as a private events space.

With the brief to create an aspirational dining experience, architects and interior designers SHH were asked to create a stylish environment complementing the restaurant’s stunning dual aspect views across the racecourse, winning post and parade ring.

Menus have been created for Equus by Head Chef Allen Townsend and his team.

Chelsea Football Club has rebranded its hospitality product as the Annual Hospitality Membership. It will include tickets to all Premier League and domestic cup games (a minimum of 24 matches across the football season), complete with premium seating, pre-match dining including a complimentary bar of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks, as well as a full 12 months of other benefits.
