Nashville Sounds downtown ballpark investment gets approval

The Nashville Sounds will play ball in a new park in 2015 after the Metro Council approved the $65 million bond issue and land acquisition for the stadium on its third reading. After the second reading, Mayor Karl Dean said:

This investment north of downtown returns baseball to its historic home in Sulphur Dell and will spur further redevelopment of the Jefferson Street area, and that’s great for our entire city. I thank all our partners in the deal, including Gov. Bill Haslam, the State Building Commission members and their staff, the Nashville Sounds, Embrey Development Corp. and the members of the Metro Council and Nashville Sports Authority.

The overall project includes $87 million in expected private development. The stadium will hold 10,000 with 8,500 fixed seats. The Sports Authority has specified high efficiency floodlighting with minimal spill, distributed stadium sound directed towards downtown, 1,000 car lot to encourage downtown parking which has worked at LP Field, strong pedestrian links and a family entertainment experience.
