RLWC2013 is the latest event organisation to build a volunteer team.

Rugby League World Cup 2013 will work with volunteers, drawn from across the UK, under the name of Team 13. Jon Dutton, RLWC2013 Operations Director, said:

Our Team 13 volunteers are an integral part of RLWC2013. They will be the first point of contact at stadiums for many of our fans and will also perform key roles at matches and behind the scenes.

Both London 2012 and Manchester 2002 proved that volunteers can be the difference between great events and fantastic events. The enthusiasm and expertise we found during the interview process was amazing and we know that with Team 13 we have a great set of volunteers at our disposal.

350 of the 800 total volunteers attended a showcase launch event at Old Trafford, the iconic sporting venue where on 30 November the Rugby League World Cup Final will take place.

RLWC2013’s Team 13 volunteers come from all walks of life, from all age groups and represent almost all of the 25 host venues and training facilities across the UK. They include London 2012 Games Makers, Rugby League fans and administrators, a contingent from Australia and at least one former Rugby League World Cup player.

The Team 13 task force will begin their work in mid-October when the teams begin to arrive for RLWC2013 ahead of the first game in Cardiff. The opening ceremony takes place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday 26 October.

Silverstone Race Makers for motor sport summer

Inspired by the success of the London 2012 Olympics Games Makers, Silverstone has recruited 105 volunteers to lend their support at two of the biggest motor sport events on the UK sporting calendar: the 2013 FORMULA 1 SANTANDER BRITISH GRAND PRIX (28 – 30 June) and the 2013 Hertz MotoGP British Grand Prix (30 August – 01 September).

The recruitment process saw applications from enthusiastic volunteers across the British Isles, who were keen to get involved and help out at their favourite motor sport events. As with the Olympics, the Race Makers will take on a variety of invaluable support roles over the course of both race weekends, including greeting fans, directing attendees around the circuit, checking tickets and offering help and information where needed.

Richard Phillips, Managing Director, Silverstone Circuits Ltd, commented:

We received over 1,000 applications which were narrowed down to a select group of 105. The Silverstone Race Makers will help us to ensure the smooth running of these fantastic events and add to the atmosphere at both British Grands Prix. It is a great opportunity for motor racing fans all over the country to get involved in their favourite motor sport events and the Race Makers can’t wait to get started.

While not strictly part of the recruitment criteria, many of the Race Makers – aged from 18 to 70 – are motor sport fans themselves, with interesting stories to tell – one couple even came to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix for their honeymoon.
