One of the final hurdles has been cleared for construction of the new Buffalo Bills stadium in Orchard Park, New York.

Erie County Stadium Corporation has approved the leasing of land to the Bills to build the new venue.

Construction work is now expected to get underway in April, with major digging starting in June.

The NFL has already approved the deal and the aim is for the stadium to open in time for the 2026 season.

Under an agreement announced last March, the state of New York will contribute $600million to the $1.4 billion project, while Erie County will add $250m.

The deal includes a 30-year lease and community benefits agreement.

The Bills have picked Gilbane Building Company and Turner Construction Company in association with 34 Group, to provide construction management of the new stadium in Orchard Park.

The project team also includes the project management firm, Legends Project Development, and Populousas the designer.
