Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, is promoting an ‘opening season’ rather than one big opening night. The first in the season is Michael Bublé on 13 September.
SMG/Pinnacle General Manager Tom Lorenz said:
We wanted a really nice show that had broad appeal. We wanted something very classy. This is a community building, and we wanted to make sure everyone felt comfortable. Michael does contemporary music, no doubt. But he also has that connection to Sinatra. It’s also a big show. He was a perfect fit to open this up in a very grand and classy style.
The Bublé concert will be the first big show at the arena. But it shouldn’t be seen as the building’s single opening event, Lorenz explained:
We really want to talk about it as a grand opening season. We have the opportunity to go from early September through November, when basketball starts, to kick in hard. The building is too big to make it just a single event. It really becomes an extended opening.
Jason Aldean and Pink are also lined up. Lorenz added:
People had trepidations that we’d do all country or all college bands. These shows, I think, prove that we’re going to do all kinds of music.
