Coopers Stadium revamp project starts

Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, Australia, is undergoing refurbishment in time for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.

The South Australian Government recently announced funding of A$52 million to upgrade the stadium as part of its commitment to host the tournament and enhance the experience for fans.

Coopers Stadium is a world-class multi-use facility and considered by many to be the best football stadium in Australia.

The venue is home to the Hyundai A-League’s Adelaide United Football Club. Apart from Football, Coopers Stadium also hosts Rugby League, Rugby Union and a variety of other sports that utilise rectangular pitches. It is also an outdoor concert venue with a capacity of up to 26,000. Improvements that will be made include:

  • Refurbishment of changing rooms
  • New shade covering on Eastern grandstand
  • Full replacement of the pitch
  • New arena lighting
  • New media and corporate facilities
  • Upgraded sound system
  • Upgrade LED system
  • New turnstiles
  • New function space in Eastern grandstand
  • Two new video replay screens

Adelaide was awarded rights as one of the five Australian host cities for the expanded version of the quadrennial world championship for women’s football which will see 32 nations compete for world championship honours.
