Drive-thru coronavirus testing at Croke Park

Ireland’s largest sports stadium – Croke Park in Dublin – is now being used as a drive-thru coronavirus testing site.

The 80,000-capacity venue in central Dublin is normally home to Gaelic Games including hurling and Gaelic football.

Croke Park is one of over 30 sites earmarked by Ireland’s Health and Safety Executive as an area to test for Covid-19, as expected cases of the virus could reach 15,000 within the coming weeks.

Patients who are referred for testing can pull up at one of eight testing bays where they are given instructions by medics, who are wearing masks. Swabs are taken and patients told to expect results in 3-5 days.

Once fully operational the test site is expected to handle an average of eight cars every 15 minutes, seven days a week, for 12 hours a day.

Irish pubs, schools and universities have been closed until Mar 29 to stem the spread of Covid-19.
