HKS designing Léon Stadium in Mexico

Architects HKS have been chosen to design a new football stadium and accompanying entertainment district development for Liga MX side Léon in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The new stadium will have 35,000-seats as well as 400 VIP suites. A 160-room hotel will also be built next to the stadium.

Grupo Pachuca, which owns Léon is building the new stadium along with the state government of Guanajuato.

Ricardo Rondón, director of HKS Mexico, said:

The new Léon Club stadium is without doubt the most important project that HKS has had in the 16 years since the company established its first office in Mexico.

For us to win this competition to design the project is an honour. The fact that we are in Mexico to serve our clients gave us a competitive advantage.

The roofed stadium will be energy efficient and include systems for water recovery.

HKS also designed AT&T Stadium for the NFL Dallas Cowboys.

Léon stadium is planned to open in 2024.
