Johan Cruijff ArenA appoints new CEO

Tanja Dik has been appointed as the new CEO of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, taking over from Henk Markerink on 1 September 2021.

Markerink will be retiring after 25 years of service. The stadium’s shareholders and certificate holders voted unanimously for Tanja Dik in a ballot.

Dik has spent the past five years as managing director consumer products & services at the Schiphol Group, where she was responsible for all retail, hospitality, mobility, media and VIP services at the airport.

Prior to that, she spent several years as Director Netherlands at Stage Entertainment, where she managed Dutch live entertainment activities and theatres in the Netherlands. She later worked as International Venue Director, which meant she was responsible for theatre companies throughout the world.

Hans van der Noordaa, chairman of the Supervisory Board at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, said:

We are convinced that Tanja is a very qualified successor who, together with our employees and partners, will oversee the further development of this fantastic stadium. On behalf of the Supervisory Board, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Henk Markerink for his impressive contribution to the development and success of the Johan Cruijff ArenA over the past 25 years.

Dik said:

I will be proud to take over from Henk. It is a position that unites my passion for sport, live entertainment and customers with a unique setting. The public role played by the ArenA is like the icing on the cake for me, and I want to develop it further. I look forward to working with the team, shareholders, business partners, founders and other stakeholders at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Henk Markerink has been CEO at the ArenA since 1995. He was jointly responsible for successfully developing the multifunctional stadium and played an active role in the growth of the Amsterdam Southeast region.

Markerink has been involved in the ArenA ever since it was conceived, and worked as project manager on the design and construction of the stadium as of 1991. Markerink was recently appointed as chairman of VNO-NCW Metropole Amsterdam (The Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers).

The ArenA will mark its 25th anniversary on 14 August 2021. The Johan Cruijff ArenA is the leading football stadium in the Netherlands and is home to AFC Ajax and the Netherlands national team. It also serves as a multi-functional venue for major national and international music and dance events as well as meetings in the business sector. These activities are organized in close collaboration with various partners. High-quality services, state-of-the-art facilities, safety and maximum public enjoyment are the main strategic cornerstones.
