Little Caesars Arena, the new home of the Detroit Red Wings, was officially opened on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The arena, a replacement for the Joe Louis Arena, is the centrepiece of the District Detroit, one of the largest sports and entertainment developments in the US.
Located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, the 50-block, mixed-use development led by the Ilitch organization unites eight world-class theatres, five neighbourhoods and three professional sports venues in one vibrant, walkable destination for people who want to live, work and play in an exciting urban environment.
Home to the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions — The District Detroit represents the greatest density of professional sports teams in one downtown core in the country.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said:
Four years ago Detroit was on its back. We were bankrupt and a national embarrassment. Now we are the only city in the country to have all four of its teams playing within walking distance of one another.
