New Cagliari stadium takes step forward

Italian Serie A club Cagliari Calcio’s new stadium has cleared another hurdle after the City Council approved plans for the development.

The Sardinian club had the initial Guide Plan to reconstruct the Stadio Sant’Elia approved in November 2019.

Construction company Costim is working closely with Cagliari Calcio and architect Sportium to complete the project which will see a 25,000-seat stadium created.

Cagliari Calcio is confident that the works can be started in 2022 and completed in the following 24 months. Club director Stefano Signorelli said:

We are satisfied with this vote, a step that has been awaited for months that allows us to have an important tool to be able to proceed with the final project.

We have been working for some time, with our partners and all members of the Club, for the creation of a highly identifying, innovative and sustainable stadium.

It is therefore a new acceleration in the ambitious path that the Club has undertaken in recent years, supported and strengthened also by the careful and fruitful collaboration of the Institute for Sports Credit.
