Plans submitted for MSG’s London sphere

A planning application has been submitted for MSG Sphere, a multi-purpose arena in east London, which would become the UK’s largest venue.

The 96-meter high Populous-designed arena will be located next to the Olympic Park.

The Madison Square Garden Company is behind the plans for the overall development which will comprise the new multi-use entertainment and leisure venue.

The 21,000 seat domed arena will be capable of hosting a wide range of events, including immersive productions and attractions, screenings, concerts, sports events, artist residencies, family shows, award shows, corporate events and product launches.

The entertainment venue will have an illuminated LED display on both its external and internal surfaces. Surrounding the sphere is a podium, which covers the site.

The development will include a music club, bar/restaurant, retail space and offices, box office, playground, outdoor gym, concourses, VIP lounges and suites and other facilities over 10 floors.

Local residents have already voiced their concern at the plans, with one petition arguing that the structure will block sunlight and increase traffic.
