Bahrain-based Mrk1 Consulting has announced that it has signed an operational consultancy agreement with the promoter of the Baku Grand Prix (BGP).

The Baku European Grand Prix will be the first Formula One™ street circuit since the introduction of Singapore in 2008. The 6km, anticlockwise city circuit in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, will start in Azadliq Square, looping around Government House before heading west and going as far as the Old City of Baku with its uniquely historic buildings, which make a incredible backdrop. The track then comes back along the beautiful Baku Boulevard on edge of the Caspian Sea.

Mr Arif Rahimov, Baku GP CEO, said:

Mrk1 Consulting has an enviable reputation for operating the newest and best tracks in the world to the highest standards. We are thrilled to be working with Mrk1 Consulting and that they will be embedded into the BGP team and work closely with us to deliver the newest race on the F1™ calendar next year.

Mark Hughes, Mrk1 Consulting founder and Managing Director said:

This is a stunning city and a truly unique environment in which to run a Grand Prix. I am extremely excited to be an integral part of the Baku Grand Prix team and play a role in bringing Formula One™ to Azerbaijan next year.

Mrk1 Consulting is a motorsport venue and race consultancy based in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with clients in China, Thailand, Russia, Italy, Austria, the U.K. and U.S.A.

Mich Sauers launches consultancy business

Mich Sauers has launched his own firm – Global Facility Solutions Associates, based in St. Petersburg, Fla, USA. Sauers said:

Our main value-add is our experience. We speak from knowledge of visiting thousands of venues; we know the comparables, what the opposition is doing, the latest opportunities.

We expect to work with owners and architects who are looking to build a new facility and from existing facilities who need assistance. For example, when researching a new ticketing service, or looking at the facility from a safety point of view or maximising suite revenue.

Sauers has spent the last 14 years with Comcast-Spectacor in Philadelphia and led global development of its venue consulting and operating business. He explained:

When it comes to design, we don’t care what colour you paint the building but we want to get the spacial relationships right. We’ve seen lots of examples of where it can go wrong, when there’s a lack of storage space, the box office is in the wrong position or the scoreboard operators can’t see the scoreboard.

Please think of GFS Associates for everything from pre-opening services to complete facility evaluations. We have a roster of professional consultants, each with over 25 years of experience in arenas, stadiums and convention, trade and expo centres.

Global Facility Solutions Associates consultants:

  • Pat Condon – Finance, Auditing and Compliance
  • Fred Maglione – Ticketing
  • Tom Paquette – Operations Arenas and Stadiums
  • Larry Rubin – Public Relations and Marketing
  • Dick Sherwood – Commercial Rights and Sports Marketing
  • Barry Strafacci – Operations Convention, Trade and Expo Centers
