Work beginning on Polar Park ballpark

Ground is set to be broken on a new baseball park in Worcester, Massachusetts on July 11.

Polar Park will be home to the future Worcester Red Sox team and is being built in the Canal District of the city.

The 10,000-seat ballpark is expected to cost around $100 million to build and will open at the beginning of the 2021 season.

Along with the ballpark will be a surrounding development, including at least 225 residences, hotels, restaurants, retail and an office building overlooking the field.

Roughly 7,000 seats will be traditional, with other areas open for fans to mingle during the game.

The new venue will be the home of the relocated team currently known as the Pawtucket Red Sox, a Minor League Baseball team playing in the Triple-A International League.

Executives from the team, construction managers Gilbane-Hunt and Skanska, along with architects DAIQ and local, state and federal officials, will be on hand at the grounbreaking event in the Canal District.
